There has been much talk about China’s plans to invade Taiwan. Still, it’s worth noting that China has been biding its time, waiting for its military, private, and civilian sectors to modernize before achieving its goal of the “one China policy.” It’s essential to recognize that the United States military equipment is significantly outdated, with much of it dating back to the early days of the Cold War. Examples include the Patriot surface-to-air missile system, the Arleigh Burke Class guided-missile destroyer, and multiple aging aircraft carriers and submarines.
However, the United States military is undergoing a massive modernization effort with the introduction of new weapon systems such as the B-21 Raider, Gerald R. Ford Class aircraft carrier, XM5 and XM250 rifles, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense, and many more. The F-15EX is another excellent example of this modernization effort, designed to provide a cost-effective and easily manufacturable platform with an overwhelming amount of munitions, unlike the F-35.
With these advancements, the United States military is evolving rapidly out of its counterinsurgency-based focus and is poised to become a more modern, capable, and confident force. This means that potential adversaries like China will face a much more advanced United States military than they face today. The United States has invested heavily in counter-terrorism efforts; recently, the U.S. has been creating advanced weapon systems such as hypersonic cruise missiles and unmanned surface vessels. Other countries are already ahead in this field; hence, it is in China’s interest to implement its “one China” policy as soon as possible for an advantage.
